The Structural Steel Division of E.S. Fox Ltd. manages both
the fabrication and field erection of structural steel systems
for building construction. The Division also specializes in
"niche" structural systems used for existing building
reinforcement, towers, pedestrian and transportation bridges,
external elevator shafts, crane installations, water parks
and other recreational structures.
Our Structural Steel Division management team provides cost-effective
and efficient control of a project from the initial tender
stage through to project completion. We employ experienced
and highly skilled steel erection field crews who are mandated
to provide a safe working environment on each of our project
sites.
In the early planning stages, our management team works closely
with architects, engineers and owners to assist in the design
and budgeting of projects. Besides assuming our traditional
role related to the supply and erection of structural steel,
we are also experienced in taking on design-build responsibilities
on significant projects when that project delivery system
is required.
Although we have completed many projects involving relatively
simple renovation and reinforcement, most of our larger commercial
and industrial projects have demanded a level of managerial
and field execution performance which is far above the ordinary.
These projects usually involve complex or unique structural
systems erected on a fast-track schedule, normally precluding
the owner's use of less competent steel erectors.
The Canadian Construction Association [CCA] has developed
and implemented a "Gold Seal Certification Program"
to promote the use of exceptional project management skills
and techniques on construction projects. Our Structural Steel
Division management personnel have attained such industry
certification. Gold Seal methods ensure effective project
delivery providing best-case liaison between the owner, designer
and contractor, all to support on-time, on-budget project
completion. Our program tracks cost, schedule, earned progress,
manpower loading, all project documentation and project close-out
and turnover.
E.S. Fox works only with steel fabricators who have met or
exceeded our performance requirements. Through past performance
they have fully demonstrated their ability to deal with complex
and demanding project requirements in a cost-effective manner
while maintaining tight delivery schedules and are then evaluated
and held accountable on each current project. We frequently
involve them in the up-front design and layout of a project
to ensure the most effective level of compliance with the
Owner's expectations.

In the field, E.S. Fox employs highly qualified and fully
trained "union" erection crews. Our field supervisors
have many years of experience working on industrial and commercial
projects in environments at airports, hotels, casinos, hospitals,
nuclear power generating stations, steel mills and recreational
and amusement facilities just to name a few.
E.S. Fox maintains a $10 million inventory of construction
tools and equipment which is available for use by the structural
division. Every project requires a wide variety of cranes
and manlifts which we maintain and update on a continual basis.
We also maintain close working relationships with major crane
rental firms in the province to access equipment that is not
cost-effective for inclusion in our own inventory.

Market diversity is one of our main assets. Although heavily
involved in the fabrication and erection of standard industrial
and commercial structural systems, we are also involved in
a wide range of structural projects which require a good measure
of agility and ingenuity in order to meet owner's expectations.
For example:
- Architecturally exposed structural steel [AESS] in various
structures requiring special procedures to ensure a quality
installation
- Bridge repair and maintenance
- Steel erection requiring special helicopter lifts
- Fast track projects on logistically sensitive sites and
locations
- Erection of pre-engineered buildings
- Erection of one-piece towers
- Erection in occupied structures
- Installation of Water Park recreational equipment
- Giant Ferris Wheel erection
- Existing building reinforcements
