NUCLEAR POWER

E.S. Fox has established a solid reputation based on our ongoing success in working for our nuclear power generation clients.  These relationships were forged through our singular focus on meeting project schedules and budgets, oftentimes in the face of unexpected challenges.

Our nuclear construction projects number into the hundreds and are as diverse as:

  • The Main Contractor for the design-build Restart of the Bruce Power “A” Plant Units #3 and #4 [750 MW each] as part of the ASLF Joint Venture team.  Our contract included 45 different modification projects including a new Secondary Control Area [SCA] and a Qualified Power Supply [QPA].  One of the project’s lasting legacies is that it provided a successful template for the provision of qualified power supply and back-up systems for the safe shutdown of CANDU power plants.  The project was awarded the 2004 Schreyer Award for Excellence as the best technical project in the country.  See that attached Canadian Consulting Engineer reprint describing our role in the project.
  • E.S. Fox, again as part of the ASLF Joint Venture is currently working on a similar scope of work for the Restart of Bruce Power “A” Plant Units #1 and #2 [750 MW each].  In addition, Fox as part of the RCM Fox Joint Venture, is designing and building the Environmental Qualification [EQ] project.  Fox is fabricating and installing all Feeder Tubes for each reactor, a large and difficult project in itself.  Fox is assisting the manufacturer with the rebuilding of the generators, as well as undertaking numerous other project assignments from Bruce Power in order to make this Restart as successful as the previous one.
  • E.S. Fox designed and constructed the Used Fuel Dry Storage project for the Waste Management division of Ontario Power Generation at the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station to process and store used nuclear fuel from the Darlington reactors.  This project also included the design, supply and installation of all proprietary process equipment.

Other significant projects for the nuclear power industry are as diverse as 2 ½ miles of SF6 Aluminum bus duct for the Darlington NGS, the fabrication of specialized cabinets for the Korean Electric Power Corporation, Transfer Cask for the retubing of the Bruce NGS, fabrication and field “over-packing” of 500 resin liners for Energy Solutions at the OPG Waste Mangement site in Tiverton, feeder cabinets for AECL at the New Brunswick Power Point Lepreau NGS, and numerous field installation projects for Ontario Power Generation Inc. Pickering NGS.
